Redefining SonicWall
Michael Crean, senior vice president of managed security services at SonicWall, asserts, “If you think you know SonicWall, you probably don’t.” He emphasizes the company’s new direction: being responsive, partner-driven, and equipped to deliver what Managed Service Providers (MSPs) truly need for success.
Next-Generation Security Offerings
SonicWall launched a suite of next-generation security products aimed at enhancing how MSPs safeguard their clients in a more hostile cyber environment. Executives describe this initiative as a “pivotal moment” in the firm’s 30-year history.
A Shift in Focus
Bob VanKirk, CEO of SonicWall, shared with CRN that the transformation extends beyond hardware. “We’re redefining our identity and our service to partners. Our previous focus on throughput and specifications is now replaced with an emphasis on outcomes, managed services, AI-driven tools, and cloud-native operations that align with MSP requirements,” he stated.
Introducing SonicPlatform
Central to this announcement is SonicPlatform, a unified, cloud-native control system designed to simplify how MSPs manage firewall deployments, endpoint protection, secure access, and policy enforcement. It is complemented by co-managed services, including 24/7 monitoring and configuration assistance through the SonicSentry NOC and MXDR teams.
Building Based on Feedback
VanKirk revealed that the redesign stemmed from external demand rather than internal ambition. “We evaluated our shortcomings for MSPs and created solutions based on their needs,” he explained.
Empowering MSPs
Crean emphasized the transformation aims to empower MSPs rather than replace them. “We are creating branded solutions that MSPs can trust and sell, ensuring they know we support them,” he remarked. He also pointed out SonicWall’s commitment to focusing on core fundamentals like visibility, control, and peace of mind rather than merely following industry trends.
A Safety Net for MSPs
Every managed firewall service through the Managed Protection Service Suite (MPSS) includes up to $200,000 in cyber warranty coverage, providing MSPs with a safety net and enabling them to assure clients during rising cyber insurance costs. “This gives them the assurance to confidently back their services,” VanKirk noted.
