Proofpoint, a prominent company in cybersecurity and compliance, has announced its agreement to acquire Hornetsecurity Group, which specializes in AI-driven Microsoft 365 (M365) security, data protection, compliance, and security awareness services across Europe.

This acquisition will significantly boost Proofpoint’s capability to deliver human-centric security solutions to small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) globally, particularly through managed service providers (MSPs). By merging Proofpoint’s leadership with Hornetsecurity’s extensive experience in the MSP sector, both companies aim to enhance protection for organizations of all sizes and their personnel.

Hornetsecurity is a robust addition to Proofpoint’s portfolio, boasting over $160 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) and experiencing year-over-year growth exceeding 20%. Its performance aligns with the Rule of 60, which signals strong market demand and efficient business operations at scale.

While Hornetsecurity caters to over 12,000 channel partners and MSPs, alongside more than 125,000 SMBs throughout Europe, Proofpoint has established itself as a leader in enterprise-level security solutions. Together, they will offer complementary solutions supported by shared threat intelligence to enhance security standards globally.

Hornetsecurity’s flagship offering, 365 Total Protection, is a robust cloud security service designed for M365 environments. This enables MSPs to utilize a multi-tenant platform for integrated services, including advanced email security, backups, security awareness training, and protection against domain fraud. The Hornetsecurity team will continue to innovate within this product line to deliver valuable solutions to their partners and customers.

With the integration of shared threat intelligence and AI-driven models, both Proofpoint and Hornetsecurity’s customers are poised to experience improved efficacy against emerging threats. Upon finalizing the acquisition, Proofpoint plans to leverage its global presence to expand the reach of Hornetsecurity’s platform, solidifying their shared mission to protect the people, data, and operations of organizations worldwide.

Hornetsecurity’s CEO, Daniel Hofmann, will continue to lead the company, ensuring strategic growth and maintaining a strong focus on product innovation. The existing management team will stay in place to further Hornetsecurity’s vision and product strategy while accelerating advancements in cybersecurity solutions.
