In a bid to raise awareness about AI security, Hong Kong’s privacy authority is launching various promotional and educational initiatives. These efforts will include thematic trams designed to reach both the public and organizations.
The initiative, branded as “AI Security Matters for All,” will kick off today and continue until July 4th. The trams will showcase a design that features a lock symbolizing AI security, accompanied by icons related to personal data. Additionally, riders will find a hotline number and a QR code directing them to a newly created thematic website on AI security.
This newly established website serves as a comprehensive resource hub, offering guidance materials from the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) on AI, educational content, updates on regulatory changes worldwide, as well as news and events focused on AI security. It aims to provide the public and organizations with practical advice for safe AI usage and insights on recent advancements in AI governance, both locally and globally.
During Privacy Awareness Week 2025, the PCPD plans to partner with various organizations to host thematic seminars, including discussions on the challenges and opportunities in data privacy in the digital age. This collaborative effort aims to further promote understanding and security in AI initiatives.
Additionally, the PCPD will distribute posters related to Privacy Awareness Week 2025 across government departments, district offices, community centers, chambers of commerce, schools, and organizations, emphasizing the significance of AI security in various sectors.
Ada Chung Lai-ling, the Privacy Commissioner, noted that the country prioritizes the development and security of AI. She emphasized the importance of advancing the ‘AI Plus’ initiative to harness the potential of the digital economy. The Hong Kong government views AI as strategically vital, identifying it as a key driver of productive forces.
As AI continues to rapidly transform everyday life and work, Chung expressed hope that the upcoming educational and promotional activities can equip the public and organizations with essential tips for safe AI use. The overarching message remains clear: “AI Security Matters for All,” which underscores the importance of safeguarding personal data privacy.
