Microsoft has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing the Windows 11 user experience by launching substantial updates for three key applications: Paint, Snipping Tool, and Notepad.

Beginning on May 22, 2025, these updates have been gradually made available to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels, incorporating numerous new features that blend usability with state-of-the-art AI technology. As highlighted on the Windows Insider Blog, these enhancements go beyond mere aesthetic adjustments, providing meaningful upgrades designed to elevate both productivity and creativity for users ranging from casual to professional.

The Paint application, now at version 11.2504.451.0, has undergone a transformation with the introduction of three innovative features. A key addition is the Object Select tool, which enables users to precisely isolate specific elements within images, simplifying the editing and manipulation process. Additionally, an AI-driven Sticker Generator allows the creation of custom stickers from text inputs or images—perfect for graphic designers and social media creators. These updates reflect Microsoft’s goal to position Paint as a lightweight yet capable alternative to more complex design software, as per the insights shared by the Windows Insider Blog.

The Snipping Tool, known for its screen capture functionality, also sees significant improvements. The latest version enhances the ease of annotating and sharing screenshots, featuring better shape recognition for neater markups. Notably, the tool now includes subtle AI enhancements that suggest edits or modifications based on the captured image’s content, as referenced in the Windows Insider Blog. This feature could be invaluable for professionals who need quick and polished visuals, integrating AI as a supportive component in their daily tasks.

Notepad, traditionally viewed as one of the simplest Windows utilities, also benefits from this wave of updates. The new version introduces AI-assisted text generation, which allows users to draft content or brainstorm ideas right within the app. According to the Windows Insider Blog, this feature is tailored for writers and note-takers seeking a starting point or quick suggestions without needing to switch applications. Although still in initial testing, this addition reflects Microsoft’s vision to make even basic tools more intelligent and responsive to user needs.

Currently accessible only to Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels, these updates symbolize a crucial shift in Microsoft’s software development strategy. By weaving AI into foundational applications like Paint, Snipping Tool, and Notepad, the company is enhancing functionality while also broadening access to advanced technology. As these features reach a wider audience in the coming months, they have the potential to transform how users engage with Windows, streamlining everyday tasks to be more intuitive and efficient.

For industry observers, this is a compelling indication that Microsoft is intensifying its focus on AI as the cornerstone of personal computing’s future—a trend deserving of close attention as it unfolds.
