Transparent cybersecurity is increasingly recognized as a critical priority due to the expanding attack surfaces, AI-driven threats, and complex technology environments. During this week’s RSAC Conference, it was emphasized that mere hype is insufficient; security strategies must prioritize transparency, disciplined processes, and actionable insights.
As enterprise security frameworks become more distributed and intricate, precise mapping of the transparent cybersecurity journey across the entire stack is essential, as noted by Mike Nichols, vice president of product management at Elasticsearch B.V.
“With extensive experience in software across various sectors, I always advise investing in your processes first,” said Nichols. “While it may be surprising for someone from a software vendor to suggest this, training teams on product usage and allowing them the necessary time and space to utilize these tools effectively significantly enhances impact.”
Nichols shared these insights during an exclusive interview with theCUBE’s Jackie McGuire at the RSAC 2025 Conference, part of SiliconANGLE Media’s live broadcast. Their conversation centered on Elastic’s commitment to process, transparency, and actionable data, which empowers security teams to stay ahead of potential threats.
Transparent Cybersecurity: Addressing Tooling and Personnel Challenges
According to Nichols, 40% of security information and event management (SIEM) implementations fail not because of technological flaws, but due to inadequate processes, insufficient training, or mismatched tools. Elastic responds to this challenge with its Automatic Migration functionality, which uses AI—specifically, retrieval-augmented generation—to convert legacy SIM content, such as detection rules and queries, into Elastic’s framework while clearly showing users the rationale behind these changes.
